One of the last surviving SAS soldiers who stormed Iran’s embassy in London to rescue hostages held during six-day siege in 1980 dies

One of the last surviving SAS soldiers who stormed Iran’s embassy in London during the infamous 1980 siege has died.

Chris Ryan today led tributes to the former trooper, referred to only as Mal, calling him ‘an incredible soldier’. 

The author tweeted: ‘We first met when I joined B Squadron in the early 80’s and you were the guiding light of the CT [counter-terrorism] world that we recognise today. God Speed…’ 

Mal was one of the 32 commandos who famously stormed the building in London to bring an end to the six day hostage siege in 1980.
