Wheeler Dealers host claims Tesla ‘isn’t fit for purpose’ in new warning

The Dawn Project: Tesla Full Self-Driving Beta 11.4.4 ‘live test’

Wheeler Dealers host Marc Priestley has called out Elon Musk and Tesla after his expensive electric car reportedly picked up two issues.

The former F1 mechanic claimed he was left “disappointed” by the American company after they refused to help solve two problems.

Priestley even went as far as claiming Tesla was “not fit for purpose” after customer service teams refused to honour his warranty agreement.

The TV star made the complaint after revealing his car’s steering wheel was “delaminating”.

Meanwhile, the presenter also reported that his seat control button had randomly “snapped off” in another blow.

Posting on his @f1elvis page on X, formerly Twitter, Priestley claimed: “I love my @Tesla, but I’m so disappointed with the customer service.

“My seat control button snapped off during normal use and my steering wheel’s delaminating, all within the first year, yet #Tesla say the warranty doesn’t cover them! Surely it’s not fit for purpose @elonmusk?”

Tesla Owners UK quickly responded asking Priestley to direct message them for support. Meanwhile, other social media users tried to reassure the TV host that he would not lose out.

@davewitchalls posted: “The steering wheel will definitely be under warranty, know of people in the forums that have had that done. Assume you’ve done this all via Service in the app?”

But, Priestley responded that Tesla had told him it was “definitely not” covered by his policy.

Issues with the steering wheel appear to be a common issue with several motorists reporting degradation through online forums.

@houghtonc79 replied: “It seems it’s a known issue with the steering wheels. So how many will they have to replace in the three years. You’ll be on wheel four by the time your warranty runs out!”

Meanwhile, @TerryTowellingg responded: “That’s appalling. This sort of thing should always be mentioned in car reviews so buyers are aware of which firms treat customers well and which ones don’t. Don’t buy a Tesla again I guess. Hope you get it sorted anyway.” However, some X users came to the defence of the electric car giant with many reporting a positive experience dealing with their support teams.

@SEAMAC_VALET posted: “That’s disappointing to hear Elvis, have dealt with the service department up here multiple times and never had any issues always seem to bend over backwards to assist us, and replace things under warranty no problem their mobile guy/assistance is also top notch.”
