'Miffed' Kylie Minogue isn't happy about the return of Neighbours

When it was announced that Neighbours would be airing its final episode last year, a number of the show’s former stars decided to head back to Ramsay Street for one final hurrah.

One such star was Kylie Minogue, who, since her time on the Australian soap, has gone on to dominate the pop industry and achieve worldwide fame.

Believing that this would be a final goodbye to the show that launched her career, the superstar agreed to make a cameo in the final episode, alongside co-star Jason Donovan.

Kylie and Jason’s characters, Charlene and Scott, were some of the most loved in Neighbours history, with their wedding drawing in 20 million UK viewers at the time of airing.

Fans were thrilled to discover that they would be making a return for what was believed to be the final episode, after Channel 5 pulled out as the show’s UK broadcast partner.

However, it has since been revealed that Neighbours will be returning, having been picked up by free streaming service Freevee, and Kylie has admitted that the decision left her ‘miffed’.

‘Yeah, “happy” is probably not the emotion,’ she revealed, when asked if she felt as though returning to Neighbours was a ‘waste of time’.

‘You know, ‘miffed’ may have been the word.

‘But I know with the producer, he’d said, like, it wasn’t [certain], they didn’t know. So all the affection and love that went into the final episode was the truth.’

She went onto admit that she is ‘interested to see how it’s going to change’, and is ‘happy for them now’.

The ‘final’ episode of Neighbours was a hit among fans, though at the time some were left confused by the lack of dialogue given to Jason and Kylie, with some wondering if Kylie was being paid by the word.

However, Neighbours’ Executive Producer Jason Herbison later clarified that this wasn’t the case, revealing that Kylie and Jason were only meant to make a ‘small appearance’ as they didn’t want to ‘overshadow’ the current cast members.

He also admitted that their scenes were filmed before the actual episode had been written, so whatever they filmed had to be able to slot in with that.
