When I was at my lowest after moving to a new town, you helped me pick myself up | The Sun
DEAR DEIDRE: AFTER moving to my dream home in the countryside, I became very depressed.
I desperately wanted to move back to my old town, where all my friends and family were, but my husband said if I left, I’d do so alone.
I’m 55 and my husband is 59. We’d always talked about moving, but I didn’t anticipate how lonely and isolated I’d feel.
I wrote to you hoping for a solution. I didn’t want to have to choose between my marriage and my happiness.
You said that moving was a huge life change and it might take longer to adjust than I expected.
But if moving back was the right thing for me, then I should put my needs first – after considering all the implications, and talking them through.
You advised me to see my GP and ask for help with my depression.
You also sent me your support packs on Depression and Counselling. Thank you.
Antidepressants have helped, and I’ve started volunteering, which has been a good way of meeting people.
I’m still homesick but I’m taking each day as it comes.
