Home and Away real-life couple gush over relationship as they talk trust on set

Home and Away stars Patrick O'Connor and Sophie Dillman opened up about how they juggled working together while being in a relationship.

Sophie, 29, joined the Channel 5 soap as Ziggy Astoni in 2017 while Paddy, 30, made his debut as River Boy Dean Thompson in 2018, but this was not the first time the two met.

The Aussie actors first crossed paths around 12 years ago when they went to the same acting school, but reunited when they both found their way to Summer Bay.

Shortly after their characters began a relationship, their romance evolved off-screen and the couple started dating in real life in 2019.

Opening up about how their lives have evolved together, Sophie exclusively told Daily Star: "We got very lucky".

Paddy added: "At the core of it, we're just good friends. When we worked together, sure we were boyfriend and girlfriend but also we were just always good mates".

Sophie continued: "We were very lucky to work with each other because there's a big level of respect for what each other does and a big level trust".

"We work very differently," chimed Paddy as Sophie agreed: "Yeah very differently but always, without fail, I knew and everyone at work knew that if we were on set, it would get done, not matter what needed to happen.

"We were really trusted to be able to do that and that's because we trusted each other on set in what we did and we always knew that we could rely on each other".

The couple recently left fans devastated after announcing their departure from Home and Away after more than five years.

Both Paddy and Sophie announced the news on their social media accounts, each penning poignant tributes regarding their time on the show.

Paddy told fans they made his Home and Away experience "unforgettable," while Sophie labelled her role as Ziggy as "the best job with the best people".
