Home and Away’s Emily Symons opens up on Emmerdale role and what she misses most

Home and Away star Emily Symons revealed what she misses most about Emmerdale more than a decade after her exit.

The actress, 54, is best known for playing Marilyn Chambers on the Aussie soap, making her debut back in 1989.

She remained on the soap for three years before heading to the UK, but she couldn't stay away for long and came back in 1995 until 1999.

After Marilyn arrived in Summer Bay once again in 2001, Emily took a nine year break before returning permanently in 2010.

But Emmerdale fans will recall that Emily's near-decade break from the Channel 5 soap was spent in the form of Louise Appleton.

Emily made her debut as Louise in 2001, starring as the Woolpack barmaid for seven years until 2008.

Unlucky in love Louise had a string of failed romances and even killed businessman Ray Mullan when she discovered he was her secret stalker.

In a previous interview with RadioTimes, the blonde beauty looked back fondly on her memories of Emmerdale and revealed what she missed most.

"We had a great social life on Emmerdale!" she explained. "I made so many wonderful friends up there and I do miss that aspect. The camaraderie is very special."

Emily revealed she is still in contact with several of her former co-stars, adding: "Charley Webb is still a very dear friend. I also keep in touch with Sheree Murphy and Mark Charnock, we chat to each other in Instagram."

Spending more than half of her life working on soaps, it's comforting to know it's still Emily's passion.

"I love working in soap," she previously told the publication. "It's a great medium, the writers are so clever to keep churning out these stories year after year and coming up with magical, wonderful situations. It's not easy.

"I had a great experience on both shows but am happy to be back in Australia with my real family, and my TV family!"
