Agonising death of UK’s worst paedophile stabbed in brain by wannabe cannibal

The prison inmate who tortured a paedo to death in his cell told a court he "got carried away by how much fun" he was having.

Richard Huckle, who has been described as Britain’s worst-ever paedophile, was murdered in a "prolonged attack designed to humiliate and degrade him" at HMP Full Sutton, in East Yorkshire, on October 13, 2019.

Fellow inmate Paul Fitzgerald subjected Huckle to a 78-minute attack in his cell at HMP Full Sutton.

He said he would have liked to have cooked and eaten parts of Huckle’s body and would have gone on to kill more inmates but was “having too much fun”.

He had gone went into Huckle’s cell at the East Yorkshire prison armed with makeshift weapons, made out of a toothbrush and a pen, a ligature and items to gag him and bind his arms and legs.

After tying Huckle up, reports Kent Live, Fitzgerald raped him, strangled him with so much force that he injured his own hands and smashed the sex offender’s face onto the floor and punched him, breaking his jaw.

Fitzgerald then stabbed his victim in the neck and shoved the pen so far up Huckle’s nostril that it penetrated the bone and went into his brain.

Fitzgerald said he wanted Huckle to "feel what his victims had felt".

Huckle had used his qualifications as an English teacher to travel the Far East. During his travels the “devout Christian” would prey on vulnerable and poor children. The serial sex offender attacked girls, boys, toddlers and even a six-month-old baby in a nappy.

He would pose as a travel photographer and then take explicit photos of his abuse which he sold to other paedophiles.

Huckle even boasted to other paedophiles and wrote a guide to sexual abuse, which he called "Pedophiles & Poverty: Child Lover Guide".

In one part of the 60-page manual, he said: "I'd hit the jackpot, a three-year-old girl as loyal to me as my dog and nobody seemed to care."

He bragged online: "Impoverished kids are definitely much, much easier to seduce than middle-class Western kids."

In his nine-year campaign of abuse police believe he could have targeted up to 200 young victims. Since his arrest police have only been able to find photographic evidence of the horrific abuse of 29 children – aged between six months and 12.

Although police were unable to access most of the predator’s computer hard drives, a two day trial in 2016 ended with a judge sentencing Huckle to 22 life sentences – with a minimum of 25 years to be served before eligibility for parole.

He would serve less than three years of that sentence before his brutal murder.

Fitzgerald, 30, strangled and sexually assaulted Huckle in cell 43 on the Delta wing at HMP Full Sutton on October 13 2019. He claimed he was carrying out "poetic justice" for Huckle's victims as he tortured the predator to death.

Huckle begged for his life as he was tied up and sexually assaulted with a spoon.

Sentencing Fitzgerald, Mr Justice Lavender said: “You intended to rape and kill Mr Huckle and, if possible, cook parts of him and eat them.".

The judge added: "You did this for your own pleasure and also to inflict what you called poetic justice on a convicted paedophile. The attack lasted over an hour and a quarter.

“At the end of which Mr Huckle was either dead or dying. Describing the events afterwards, you said: ‘I got carried away by how much fun I was having doing what I was doing to him’.”

As the judge spoke to him, Fitzgerald, who appeared in Hull Crown Court via a video link, laughed and smirked.

Fitzgerald was handed a life sentence with a minimum prison term of 34 years.
