Rebekah Vardy says Jamie 'knows' she wasn't 'Wagatha Christie' leaker

‘Jamie knows I didn’t do it – but Wayne Rooney called my husband a liar’: Rebekah Vardy takes another swipe at the Rooneys in tell-all after Wagatha Christie trial

  • Rebekah Vardy, 40, has taken aim at Wayne Rooney after ‘Wagatha Christie’ trial
  • She hit out at the ex-England striker after he gave evidence about ‘2016 incident’
  • He claimed England boss had asked Rooney to speak to Jamie Vardy about wife
  • Rooney said he was asked to ask Vardy to ‘calm down’ wife ahead of Euro 2016
  • Vardy, who did not give evidence, issued statement describing it as ‘nonsense’
  • Now Mrs Vardy has defended husband Jamie, who she described as her ‘rock’

Rebekah Vardy has today taken a fresh swipe at the Rooney’s following her defeat in her ‘Wagatha Christie’ legal battle with Coleen.

In a punchy tell-all interview following the conclusion of the High Court defamation case, Mrs Vardy turned her guns on former England star Wayne over evidence he gave at trial.

The 40-year-old today revealed her fury at the ex-Premier League star after he claimed her husband Jamie had lied about an alleged incident between the pair in 2016.

It was claimed in the trial that then-England boss Roy Hodgson had spoken to Rooney to ask team-mate Vardy to ‘calm down’ his wife during Euro 2016.

Rooney insisted under oath that he had ‘100 per cent’ spoken to his team-mate about his wife following Hodgson’s request.

But in a sensational twist, Vardy, who did not give evidence at the trial, then issued a statement describing Rooney’s version of events as ‘nonsense’.

Now Mrs Vardy has launched a staunch defence of her husband Jamie, who she today described as ‘her rock’.

She said the Leicester City striker ‘knows’ she wasn’t the person leaking sending stories from Mrs Rooney’s private Instagram.

And she claimed Leicester City forward had in fact encouraged her to take legal against against Mrs Rooney – rubbishing previous reports that he had tried to talk out of it.

In an interview with The Sun, following her loss in the defamation case, Mrs Vardy said of her husband: ‘He was always fully supportive.

It was claimed in the trial that then-England boss Roy Hodgson had spoken to Rooney to ask team-mate Vardy to ‘calm down’ his wife during Euro 2016

‘If anything he was more of a motivation for me to continue to push because he knew the truth.

Describing him as her ‘rock, she added: ‘Jamie always has, and always will, have my back.’

She also refuted claims that Vardy had been ‘scared’ to give evidence himself during the trial, adding: ‘Jamie didn’t make a witness statement because I didn’t ask him to, and he didn’t give evidence because I didn’t ask him to — and you can’t give evidence unless you give a witness statement.’

However she said the 35-year-old was compelled to make a statement following Rooney’s evidence during the seven-day trial in May.

The former Three Lions striker had recounted an incident in 2016 in which he had spoken with then-England boss Roy Hodgson.

He claimed, in court, that the manager had asked him to speak to team-mate Vardy to ask her to ‘calm down’ his wife during the 2016 Euros.

There were reportedly concerns that she was ‘causing problems and distractions’ for the team in France.

Rooney, speaking during the trial, said: ‘I’m sat here on oath. I 100 per cent spoke to Mr Vardy.

‘If he wants to speak that and relay that back to his wife that’s entirely his business.’

Jamie later publicly disputed the conversation ever happened – accusing Rooney of talking ‘nonsense’.

It comes as Ms Vardy today claimed that her footballer husband Jamie received death threats following her ‘Wagatha Christie’ fallout with Mrs Rooney.

She said the Leicester City star and their two children had been the subject of ‘disgusting hatred’ by online trolls amid her high-profile court fight with the fellow WAG.

One message reportedly sent to Mrs Vardy, describes the Premier League star, 35, as a ‘cocky c**t’ and claims that ‘people are after him’.

Another, reportedly sent direct to the ex-England striker, and which makes reference to Mrs Vardy’s appearance in I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here says: ‘You should’ve gone to the jungle and died of a snake bite instead.’

Police have reportedly arrested three people in relation to alleged online threats made against the Premier League star.

Speaking to The Sun, Mrs Vardy said: ‘It doesn’t matter what people’s opinions are about me, they shouldn’t be attacking my husband or children.

‘I draw the line when you subject them to vicious, disgusting hatred, and abuse my husband.’

Mrs Vardy told the paper she was ‘devastated’ by the threats made against her husband, adding: ‘This isn’t about my family.

Rebekah Vardy feared she would give birth prematurely in midst of Wagatha Christie scandal as she takes ANOTHER swipe at judge and accuses her of failing to understand the case

Rebekah Vardy has revealed that the stress caused by Coleen Rooney’s claim she was leaking stories to the press could have sent her into premature labour, as she took another swipe at the libel trial’s judge.

Speaking in an extraordinary interview broadcast on TalkTV tonight entitled ‘Rebekah Vardy: Coleen and Me’, Mrs Vardy said that she felt the High Court judge, Mrs Justice Steyn, did not understand the case.

She spoke extensively about the impact that the trial, and the lead-up to it, had on her family.

The mother-of-five was pregnant with her youngest daughter when Mrs Rooney first accused her of leaking stories about to The Sun in her famous ‘Wagatha’ post on social media ending ‘It’s……….Rebekah Vardy’s account’.

Speaking to TalkTV’s Kate McCann, Mrs Vardy said she felt as though she ‘didn’t even want to be here anymore’, and isolated herself from the public.

Mrs Vardy said that she withdrew from the public gaze due to the stress she felt when being abused both in the street and online.

This stress, she was told by her doctor, could have sent her into premature labour.

‘I was trying to be mum to the four children that were here and to protect my baby as well,’ she said. ‘There was a really high probably I was going to go into preterm labour.

‘It was the worst feeling,’ she added.

‘It’s not their battle, and it’s not fair they should be subjected to horrific abuse. I just want it to stop.’

Mrs Vardy has reportedly shared ‘dozens’ of ‘horrific’ messages with The Sun, it reports.

One reportedly reads: ‘You dirty f***ing slag. I hope Vardy’s leg gets broke (sic).”

Another is said to read: ‘Hello Jamie, or should I call you p****.

‘I cannot f***ing stand you and honestly the world would be so much better off if you broke your legs and gave up football.’

It comes after Ms Vardy claimed she had received up to 100 threatening messages each day following her very public spat with fellow WAG, Mrs Rooney.

She said the messages made her ‘feel sick’ and resulted in her developing a fear of being in public places.

She was also sent physical letters to her home, which included ‘crazy s**t’ from psychics, and was called names in the street.

Mrs Vardy sensationally lost her £3million libel battle against Mrs Rooney, 36, at the High Court last week.

The row started after Mrs Rooney claimed on social media that Mrs Vardy was behind a series of leaks of stories from her private Instagram account – an accusation which ended with the now infamous crescendo, ‘It’s Rebekah Vardy’s account…’

Mrs Vardy said that after the accusation, going out was ‘horrendous’, and she was scared to leave the house, with people looking at her, and calling her names behind her back.

‘I thought that eventually it would die down, it would go away, but it didn’t. It just got worse and worse,’ she told The Sun.

‘I was linked to the disappearance of Madeleine McCann, people suggesting I was a member of IS, stuff like that.

‘It was as if I’d murdered someone. Every time something happened it was my fault, every time something new broke, it was my fault.’

The mother-of-five also revealed that she has been hospitalised twice with mental health issues since October 2019, when she was accused of the leaks.

She saw multiple counsellors, and was given medication for both anxiety and depression.

Mrs Vardy said she was struggling with panic attacks and felt as though her life was falling apart, describing the ordeal as exhausting.

Kidney stones had also developed due to the stress, she added.

She now believes she could be suffering from PTSD following the High Court trial.

Mrs Vardy was enjoying a trip to Dubai when she saw that Mrs Rooney had taken to social media to accuse her of leaking stories to The Sun newspaper following her own months-long ‘sting operation’, ending the post with the now immortal words: ‘It’s… Rebekah Vardy’s account.’

Mrs Vardy said that she thought about jumping from the top floor of a shopping mall in Dubai while pregnant, after being accused of leaking the stories.

She described it as her ‘lowest point’, anticipating the UK response when she returned to the country.

During the libel trial, Mrs Vardy said that she felt ‘bullied’ and ‘slut-shamed’, aying that her answers were ‘manipulated’ and ‘twisted’.

While she did not regret the trial, Mrs Vardy said that it felt ‘misogynistic’ and ‘classist’, with people pitching the ‘two successful working-class women’ against each other.

Following Mrs Rooney’s famous social media post, Mrs Vardy said that she has lost some friends, but keeps a small circle, keeping football separate from her family life.

She added that she and Mrs Rooney were ‘not close’ to begin with, but said that there are ‘no bard feelings’ on her side.

Mrs Vardy had sued Mrs Rooney for libel over her claim that she had leaked details of her private life to the press.

It followed an elaborate sting operation that saw Mrs Rooney post fake stories on her Instagram in order to see which ones ended up in The Sun.

Justice Steyn, said in her ruling that Mrs Rooney had successfully proved her allegation was substantially true.

Mrs Vardy will have to pay her rival’s costs as well as her own, which sources in both camps say comes to between £2million and £3million.

The huge legal bill means the Vardys may be forced to sell their beloved Portuguese villa to cover the costs.

The bombshell verdict from Court 13 of the High Court was handed down remotely online last week by Mrs Justice Steyn just over two months after the trial in May.

Mrs Vardy’s failed libel suit has been branded the most ill-advised in history.

She may also have to pay damages to Mrs Rooney, who is considering a further claim over a breach of data protection and misuse of information.
