Bargain Hunt to air crossover episode with classic BBC series

Bargain Hunt: Teapot sells for almost £400,000

Two worlds are set to collide as BBC bosses have called for fans of sci-fi favourite Doctor Who to send in their applications for the next series of Bargain Hunt, where a special crossover between the two shows will air.

The selected applicants will be able to sift through antique Doctor Who items to buy before they go and auction them.

A casting call was posted on the BBC website and a Doctor Who fan account on Twitter shared the news.

@DoctorwhoPN wrote: “The BBC is looking for Doctor Who fans for ‘Bargain Hunt’ for filming August/September 2023.

“Apply below. https://bbc.co.uk/showsandtours/bargain-hunt-application-form.”

The account later detailed: “Very important: They are asking applicants to put “Dr Who” after their full name on the application.”

Fans flocked to the comments to express their excitement over the opportunity, with Twitter user @catterall_simon writing: “Oo I’d love that.” (sic)

@BowtieMenagerie remarked: “Cursing myself for living in NZ rn.” (sic)

@WillGrahamUK penned: “Signed up! Let’s hope my ‘funny story’ is funny enough…”

“How would that even work? Where would you find that much secondhand Who stuff? And would it sell at a general auction?” asked @wingedpodcast.

The news is likely to be welcomed by those who enjoy tuning into the antique show because recent sporting events have seen the series taken off air.

The BBC cancelled Wednesday’s instalment of the daytime favourite in order to cover Wimbledon.

Thankfully for fans, Bargain Hunt aired on Thursday and Friday in at 12.15pm.

Doctor Who fans will be keen to see all the weird and wonderful memorabilia showcased in the same event, especially if they have the chance to get involved.

With the announcement already attracting so much fan attention, it seems the episode could be a popular special.

Bargain Hunt continues on Monday at 12.15pm on BBC One.
