Corrie fans slam evil Beth as she reports struggling mum Gemma to social services

Coronation Street fans were left fuming on Friday night, 7 July, when Beth Tinker reported struggling mum Gemma Winter to social services after a terrifying accident placed little Bertie Osborne’s life in danger.

Things first kicked off when Gemma agreed to take care of toddler Bertie alongside her own brood of quads, despite admitting to her partner Chesney that she had been struggling under the pressure.

As regular viewers will know, Gemma has been hit with a double whammy of tragedy in recent weeks, following her brother Paul’s heartbreaking Motor Neurone Disease diagnosis, and her own ongoing financial woes due to the cost of living crisis.

In an attempt to earn some extra money and not wanting to let down her friends and neighbours, Gemma agreed to take on the extra burden of taking care of more children – despite having just been prescribed anti-depressants to help stabilise her mood.

Exhausted by the demands of caring for so many children, in a moment of weakness, Gemma fell asleep, during which time little Bertie had managed to find his way into her handbag and swallowed some of her anti-depressants, prompting a terrifying race to the hospital so he could be checked over.

Devastated by what had transpired, an apologetic Gemma couldn’t appear more remorseful as she apologised to worried dad Daniel who assured her that Bertie was fine after a thorough check-up.

Insisting that he wouldn’t be taking the matter further, Gemma thought she could breathe a sigh of relief, as Daniel forgave her, but it soon emerged that Beth Tinker had phoned social services to report the slip up – despite having hit a child herself in the past.

Fans at home were not impressed by Beth’s actions, with several even going so far as to brand the hypocritical seamstress as “evil” for kicking Gemma when she was down and clearly struggling.

Taking to social media, one fan wrote: “Hypocrite Beth who slaps kids reports Gemma to the social. How dare she?? Who would let her have BERTIE when she slaps kids, who knows if she would do the same to him. The cheek of grassing Gemma up.”

While a second commented: “Beth is pure evil. How could she?!”

Before a third fan added: “Beth really is a horrible person. Brass neck judging anyone when she slapped someone else's child.”

Although the outcome of the report has yet to be revealed by the show, Gemma herself immediately feared the worst, as she worried that her own children could soon be taken away from her in heartbreaking scenes after the result of the slip-up.

Will she be able to keep the quads? Or are her days as a mother now numbered?

Coronation Street continues Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8pm on ITV and ITVX
