Oscars 2023: Fans React to Taylor Swift, Viola Davis, ‘Nope’ and More Nomination Snubs

People are calling out the Academy for shutting out their favorite stars and movies of the nominations for this year’s Academy Awards, which also fail to honor any female director.

AceShowbiz -Every year, Oscar nominations often earn criticisms and this year is no different. After the contenders for the 2023 Academy Awards were announced, people expressed their disappointment that their favorite stars and movies are excluded from the list.

Some of the biggest snubs are Taylor Swift, who wrote and recorded the track Carolina for “Where the Crawdads Sing“, Viola Davis who was shut out of the best actress category and Jordan Peele‘s “Nope“, which didn’t get a single nomination.

Taking to social media to express their displease, a Swiftie reacted, “carolina by taylor swift should’ve gotten a nom for original song based on the instrumental/production alone. it wouldn’t have won but it deserved recognition.”

Another fan of Swift begged to differ though, writing, “I say this as a Taylor Swift fan – just because she releases a song for a film doesn’t mean it automatically deserves an Oscar nomination? *invisible text* it wasn’t good.”

Others were upset that Davis and her movie “The Woman King” didn’t get a single nomination. “Despite all of the valid historical/cultural critiques of The Woman King and its reframing of a very complex history, for the blockbuster spectacle of a film that it was, the talent in it, and audiences and critics’ responses to it, the Oscar snub is kind of egregious,” someone said. Another echoed the sentiment, “My biggest Oscar snub upset is how The Woman King got shut out of literally everything. It was phenomenal across the board.”

Some think that Danielle Deadwyler should’ve been nominated for her role in “Till“, a film about the murder of Emmett Till. “BIGGEST OSCAR SNUB: NO DANIELLE DEADWYLER for LEAD ACTRESS (for ‘TILL’)!!” a critic opined.

Another weighed in on the zero nomination for female director, “You should be able to look at the Oscar nominees and get a pretty good snapshot of that year’s movies. That’s what makes the lack of women directing nominees so glaring. And to me, NOPE the biggest snub.”

Someone else added, “My reaction to the Oscar noms: Not a ton of surprises, absolutely wild to not have a single woman nominated in the directing category when Sarah Polley and Charlotte Wells turned out two of the best films of the year and Viola Davis and Danielle Deadwyler are big snubs.”
