Phillip Schofield reveals real reason he and Holly Willoughby are no longer friends

Disgraced TV star Phillip Schofield has finally spilled the beans on why he and co-star Holly Willoughby are no longer friends, as he gave his first interview since the news of his affair with a younger ITV employee broke.

The former This Morning star was dropped from ITV last week, after Phillip confessed that he had previously been embroiled in an affair with a young runner on the show – a relationship he repeatedly denied when questioned by ITV.

But long before Phil had parted ways with ITV, viewers at home had already noticed the frosty reception growing between himself and co-star Holly, someone he had previously been close to.

Many fans were convinced the distance between the former friends was duo to the controversy that occurred last September when the stars were accused of “queue-jumping” while visiting the late Queen as she was lying-in-state at Westminster.

As a result of the incident, thousands of memes were created that mercilessly mocked the pair for their behaviour, despite their repeated denials that they had jumped any queue.

The backlash was so severe following the incident that became known as “queue gate”, Holly even gave a public on-air apology to the public, despite never admitting any wrongdoing.

But it has since emerged that while the situation did create tension between the pair, it was actually the conviction of Phil’s brother Timothy last month for child sexual abuse charges that brought their decade long friendship to an end.

The surprising admission came in Phil’s first interview since being dropped by ITV, in which he opened up to The Sun about the fallout from last weeks revelations.

Although no quote was given alongside the claim, Phil did however explain how the fallout from “queue gate” had continued to impact on his life, as he told the publication he wouldn’t be “going out” anymore.

He said: “So we are forever now (associated)… it doesn’t matter now because I’m not going to go out any more … but forever now, you go to the butchers and someone says, ‘Oh do you want to (skip ahead)…?’ ‘No, no, I’ll stand here.’ I’m serious.”

Reflecting on the fateful day last year in which he and Holly were caught on camera in a covid face mask and somber expression outside Westminster, Phil even admitted in hindsight it had been a “bad thing to do.”

However he and Holly have always resolutely denied that they skipped the line as a result of their celebrity status.
