Here’s everything you need to know about the cast of The Serpent Queen.

Who is in the cast of The Serpent Queen?

Catherine de Medici – Samantha Morton

Catherine de Medici is the Serpent Queen herself, a ruthless woman who will do anything to stay in power.

As a result of her no-nonsense attitude, she became one of the most powerful and longest-serving rulers in French history.

She is played by actress Samantha Morton who is best known for starring in Harlots, Minority Report and The Walking Dead.

Morton is currently in the middle of filming new Paramount+ series The Burning Girls which is due to be released next year.

Young Catherine de Medici – Liv Hill

Catherine de Medici came from nothing but with help from her uncle Pope Clement (Charles Dance), she was able to marry into French royalty.

The Serpent Queen will feature flashbacks from when Catherine was 16 to explain why she became so merciless when it came to those who threatened to ruin her position.

Actress Liv Hill is new to the entertainment industry, having only been acting in onscreen roles since 2017.

She has previously been in BBC’s mini-series Three Girls, Jellyfish, The Little Stranger, The Fight and Elizabeth is Missing.

Diane de Poitiers – Ludivine Sagnier

The trouble really begins for Catherine when she discovers her husband is not in love with her.

She finds out he is actually head over heels for Diane de Poitiers, a woman twice his own age.

French actress and model Ludivine Sagnier was nominated twice for the César Award for Best Supporting Actress with Swimming Pool and A Secret.

Netflix fans will best recognise her as Claire in Netflix’s French drama Lupin.

Rahima – Sennia Nanua

Rahima is the young servant girl who Catherine tells her story to, eager for people to know her side of the story and how she was forced to become the Serpent Queen.

Catherine is also keen to show how someone as innocent as Rahima could be corrupted if pushed hard enough.

Actress Sennia Nanua is also new to acting with just a few credits under her belt, according to her IMDb profile.

She has been in The Girl with All the Gifts, The Fight, Casualty and Frankie.

Louis de Bourbon – Danny Kirrane

Louis is hoping for his family to one day take over as the French rulers but with his older brother Antoine more interested in the simpler pleasures in life like food and sex, it’s going to be an almost impossible task.

Actor Danny Kirrane has been in Pirates of the Caribbean, The Sandman, Don’t Forget the Driver, Trollied, Walking on Sunshine and Critical.

Pope Clement – Charles Dance

Pope Clement is Catherine’s uncle who negotiates her marriage into the French royal family.

Actor Charles Dance has been in projects such as The Sandman, The Crown, Dracula Untold, Me Before You, The Imitation Game and Euphoria.

Antoine de Bourbon – Nicholas Burns

Antoine is the eldest of two brothers, himself and Louis but he isn’t quite as fussed about becoming the next ruler, so long as he can benefit from the privileges of power.

Actor Nicholas Burns has been in Harlots, Marley’s Ghosts, Uncle and Small Axe.

Other cast members include:

Aabis – Amrita Acharia

King Francis – Colm Meaney

Ann D’Etampes – Naomi Battrick
