Three teens have been charged with murder over the alleged stabbing death of 14-year-old Ethan Hoac in Melbourne’s western suburbs last month.

Detectives on Saturday night arrested an 18-year-old Tarneit man and two 17-year-old boys over the incident.

They have since been charged with murder, with all expected to face a children’s court on Sunday.

Hoac and two friends were walking home from a railway station in St Albans late on June 26, when he was allegedly struck by an SUV before two men in face coverings got out and attacked him.

His friends were not hurt and managed to escape. They called emergency services but the boy died on the way to hospital.

Hoac, who loved gaming and basketball, was remembered late last month as the joker of his large group of friends.

Ethan was in year 9 at Braybrook College. He was walking home with two friends, reportedly from a different school, on the night he died.

His friend Jolie Nguyen said Ethan’s violent death had come as a shock to his friends, who had been hit “pretty hard” by the tragedy.

“Ethan was not the kid that would get into trouble. He was not that type of person,” she said.

“He was a kind-hearted, funny and goofy person. He was always so generous, paying for everyone’s food.”
