Laine Hardy crowned winner of American Idol 2019
Laine Hardy has been named the winner of America Idol 2019 after a nail-biting finale.
The 19-year-old singer beat Alejandro Aranda and Madison VanDeburg to the top spot, with host Ryan Seacrest announcing his victory in front of judges Lionel Richie, Katy Perry and Luke Bryan.
‘I can’t believe it,’ Laine said at the time before taking to the stage once again to perform his track Flame. ‘I’m so thankful.’
He later told ET: ‘I’m still processing it but it’s been a crazy night.
‘My mind is so overwhelmed right now with so many different emotions. I really need to let it sink in. It hasn’t sunk in yet.’
And it seems like Laine’s triumph is still dawning on him as he posted on his Instagram story: ‘Omg ya’ll so much going through my mind right now!
‘Thank you so much for everything.’
Laine first appeared on the ABC show last year, but was eliminated from the competition after failing to make it past the Hollywood Round.
American Idol is set to return to the small-screen with ABC confirming its renewal for a third season last week.
‘We’re singing with excitement! #AmericanIdol is coming back for a third season on ABC!’ the official Twitter page for the show announced.
While it’s the show’s third season on ABC, it marks the 18th season overall, after American Idol switched channels from Fox back in 2018 after 15 years.
It remains up in the air as to whether the judges will all be making a comeback, however Luke enthused to ET: ‘I think we collectively agree that we certainly enjoyed the role and each other.
‘And we’re having fun with it.’
Meanwhile Katy added: ‘I must tell you, very few times in life do you find a group of people you actually love being around. I can’t imagine being without them.’
