One BILLION Game Of Thrones fans watched the season eight premiere as Jon Snow finally finds out who his father is
ONE Billion Game Of Thrones fans tuned in to the season eight premiere in the US last night, as fan favourite Jon Snow found out the truth about his real father.
The final season of the award winning HBO show, which airs in 207 countries and territories and is simulcast in 194, set fans from all over the world discussing their reactions as it became a top trending topic worldwide.
After two long years of waiting for the series to return, excited viewers gathered together and celebrated by hosting viewing parties, where they sported costumes and masks of their favourite characters as they watched the drama unfold on huge screens.
But, there's one particular moment in the opening episode that is sure to grab the attention of viewers everywhere, as Jon Snow – played by Kit Harington – found out that he is in fact the lovechild of Rhaegar Targaryen and Ned Stark's sister, Lyanna Stark.
At the end of season seven, fans watched as Jon finally gave in to his love for Daenerys Targaryen, who is actually his aunt by blood.
Although, the new incest relationship is only one of the character's worries, as the last season revealed that The Night King and his army were on their way to Westeros after they stormed through The Wall with the help of an ice dragon.
With plenty of intrigue and lashings of crowd-pleasing plot twists, the whole opening episode is sure to satisfy seasoned fans' appetites perfectly when it airs in the UK this evening.
But, it's the final few shots that will really separate the hardcore viewers from the latecomers.
That's because we finally see – after EIGHT long years – Jaime Lannister and Bran Stark together again.
Amazingly, it is the first time the two major characters have interacted since the very first episode aired back in 2011.
That opening episode ended with the much younger Bran scaling a tower in Winterfell – where he caught the Kingslayer in a compromising position with his sister Cersei.
Desperate not to have his incestuous affair exposed, Jaime opted to shove Bran out of the tower window.
The boy fell hundreds of feet to the ground below – but miraculously survived the fall.
He was left unable to walk and had no memory of what happened.
But since that first episode, both characters have gone on remarkable journeys.
In the series that followed, Bran has had his magical abilities enhanced under the tutelage of the Three-Eyed Raven.
Bran the apprentice has mastered the magic of Greensight – the power to see events in dreams.
Meanwhile, Jaime has trekked across much of Westeros – and has endured a series of hardships including losing his fighting hand.
But in the final scene of the first episode in series eight, the two finally lay eyes on each other for the first time since the attempt to murder Bran.
The young man's new ability as a greenseer means its almost guaranteed that he's aware of what truly happened that fateful day eight years ago- setting things up for an explosive second episode.
