Strictly Come Dancing winner Bill Bailey, 56, offered a heartfelt message to his pal Sean Lock who sadly died this year at the age of 58. The comedian was a regular fixture on Channel 4’s 8 Out of 10 Cats.

When the show began on Channel 4 in 2005, he was placed as a captain, having five years earlier won the British Comedy Award.

Sean was a regular on the programme for a decade and also appeared on 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown.

Tonight, Bill offered a heartwarming tribute to the British comic which had viewers overcome with emotion during tonight’s Stand Up To Cancer.

He began: “I remember the first time that I met Sean. It was at a little comedy club in West London.”

Bill recalled Sean “larking about on stage” and was engaging with the crowd with his charm.

“We became friends,” he continued.

“Sean’s stand-up was a mix between the daft, clever and the downright bonkers, the utterly original.”

He went on: “He drew you in. He was a man of boundless creativity and he channelled all of this into his darkly brilliant sitcom 15 Storeys High – which is now rightly hailed as a masterpiece.”

The Strictly star explained that his stint on 8 Out of 10 Cats brought Sean to a much wider audience and “cemented” his place as one of the UK’s top comics.

“He had a brilliant mind, a questioning mind. He was a deep thinker and loved getting the most out of life,” Bill remarked.

“What I loved most about him – like me – he loved to dance. He was a free spirit. A traveller, a loving family man. A brilliant comic.”

He finished: “I miss him greatly. My oldest and dearest friend, I’m grateful for the time we spent together and I’m so glad so many people got to see how funny he was.”
