Coronation Street star Eileen Derbyshire’s beloved husband Thomas dies after Alzheimer’s battle

Eileen Derbyshire's husband Thomas W. Holt has died after a long battle with Alzheimer's.
The 89 year old Coronation Street legend, who is best known for playing Emily Bishop in the popular soap opera, lost her beloved husband of 56 years last weekend.
Their son Oliver Holt, who is a sports journalist, confirmed the news as he wrote about mourning his father's death and their shared love of football in his column for Mail Online.

He recalled how they attended their first father-son football match in 1979 for Stockport County's game against Aldershot and said: "My dad wasn’t really much of a football fan but I was 12 then and he knew that I was getting obsessed with the game and so he took me."
Oliver later revealed: "My dad never forgot Stockport even when he was deep into his struggle with Alzheimer’s Disease. He wanted to go back there and revisit all the places of his youth.
"Sometimes, he asked me if I’d give him the bus fare for the journey."

He continued: "Taking me there was one of the many things I was grateful to him for.
"And so, County and Stockport Viaduct, a landmark of which he was inordinately proud, were two of the last things I mentioned to him before he died last weekend."
The journalist went on to explain that his father was unconscious by the time he arrived by his bedside.

Nevertheless, he proceeded to speak about having watched "the home game" and said he could remember all the people and smells he experienced during that first game 42 years prior.
Oliver's mum Eileen left Coronation Street in 2015 after her character Emily went to visit Peru, but still holds the title as the longest serving female star on a soap opera.
While TV bosses are said to have left the door open for her to return after she exited for personal reasons, in 2019 a source told The Sun Online that there are "no immediate plans" for her to back a comeback.
