Dan Walker, 44, has addressed BBC Breakfast’s newest addition today, as the programme welcomed a new sofa to the set. The TV presenter declared the replacement to be a “lot firmer” than its predecessor, meaning he can no longer “slump” on the show.

On Instagram, Dan shared a photo of himself and co-host Louise Minchin, 52, on the iconic red seat.

Alongside the cheery snap, he typed: “We have a new #BBCBreakfast sofa as the old one was lumpy and bumpy.

“It’s a lot firmer which means I can’t slump anymore and therefore look like a giant.”

Louise also agreed with 6ft 6in Dan that the sofa made him appear more imposing than before.

She posted a selfie on Twitter of the pair preparing for their hosting duties and shared: “Good morning we have a new sofa which despite the perspective here makes Dan even taller! #BBCBreakfast.”

Louise is thought to be around 5ft 8in in height while Dan towers above her.

Fans were divided over the new seat, as some said it did not appear to look very “comfortable”.

One wrote: “That cannot be comfortable… there is no depth to the seat.”

However, another replied: “Nice new sofa… and you never slump!”

While a third commented simply: “Good morning to our favourites!”

It comes after Dan was recently left red-faced when he referred to Louise as his wife.

Following a weather report on the show when, the 44-year-old told viewers: “Good Morning, welcome to Breakfast with Louise Walker. Louise Walker?”

Bursting into fits of laughter, Dan quickly apologised and remarked: “Sorry. Louise Minchin – apologies – and Dan Walker.”

A smiling Louise replied: “I just don’t know what to say.”

Dan later took to his social media pages to clarify he was not in fact married to Louise as he shared a series of throwback pictures of the pair working together.

“Just to confirm… I do love working with Louise but we are not married… despite what I said on #BBCBreakfast this morning. #MrAndMrsWalker,” he explained.
