Garth Brooks Gets Emotional While Performing ‘Belleau Wood’

Garth Brooks got emotional and cried while performing “Belleau Wood” during his and wife Trisha Yearwood‘s “Garth & Trisha Live! A Holiday Concert Event.”

The country superstar had to pause and restart his performance while singing the song. “Belleau Wood” tells the story about a ceasefire between several German and American soldiers during World War I to celebrate Christmas Eve. Each side of the war sang a rendition of “Silent Night” together.

Brooks had to stop and say “I’m gonna get this,” before he wiped away a tear.

“I stood up on my trench / And I began to sing along / Then across the frozen battlefield / Another’s voice joined in / Until one by one each man became / A singer of the hymn,” Brooks sings in the holiday track.
