Gazza cuts Soccer AM appearance short after taking too many sleeping tablets
Paul Gascoigne cut his Soccer AM appearance short after felling unwell due to taking too many sleeping tablets.
The Tottenham and England legend’s speech was slurred and he appeared drowsy as chatted to hosts Fenners, Jimmy Bullard and Lloyd early in the show on Saturday morning.
Around 45 minutes into the episode, which goes out live, Fenners told the audience that Gascoigne, affectionately known as Gazza, had left the studio early because he wasn’t feeling well.
His representative told Mirror Football the 51-year-old – who suffers from insomnia – had taken sleeping on Friday night, but was still feeling the effects of those during the show.
Shane Whitfield, of Kong Events, said Gascoigne had taken ‘a couple of sleeping tablets’ to help him get a decent night’s rest ahead of his appearance on Soccer AM.
And the man himself later confirmed the reason in a tweet.
Gascoigne, who also played for clubs including Lazio, Rangers and Everton, has fought addiction to drink and drugs for several years as well as suffering from various mental health issues.
Earlier this week, he revealed his romance with art gallery boss Sara Lovett had ended.
Announcing the split on Twitter, he even asked for help finding a new partner.
Posting a topless snap, Gazza wrote: "I’m ok single and find me a girlfriend please."
Sara, 49, who owns the Antidote Art Gallery in Lutterworth, Leicestershire, had been credited with helping Gazza fight his drink and drug addictions.
They are thought to have enjoyed a string of dates over a few months.
