Guardiola reveals how Sane’s World Cup snub could make him even better

Pep Guardiola claims Leroy Sane’s World Cup snub could make him a better player.

The Manchester City winger was a shock omission from Joachim Loew’s squad as the Germans surprisingly crashed out in the group stage.

Guardiola claims Sane must not dwell on his disappointment and says it could spur him on next season.

“I think it’s the past,” said the City boss. “Jogi Lowe, the national trainer, decided what’s the best for the national team.

“Leroy, has to accept that this decision may make him stronger. He’s so young and in two years it is another European Championships and then in four years another World Cup.

“He has to improve his game, try to keep the levels he showed last season. We are so happy to have him here.”

Guardiola refused to criticise Loew for leaving out Sane because he dislikes managers attacking each other.

“It is what it is,” said the Catalan. “I respect all the decisions of the managers because Jogi has made what he feels are the right decisions and there is nothing to say.

“I don’t like it when the other managers give their opinions about my decisions. Unfortunately that’s happened.

“That’s why I never did it in the past – make comments about my colleague’s decisions. Leroy has to accept and move forward. He has the chance to show the national team from Germany and first of all us, he has another season to show his quality.”
