Kate Garraway has revealed that David Beckham sent videos of encouragement to her two children as their dad Derek battled for his life in hospital.

Kate, 53, said football legend David sent videos to both Darcey, 15, and 11-year-old Billy last year.

David’s kind act has been revealed in Kate’s new book, The Power Of Hope, which is being serialised by the Mail On Sunday.

The GMB host said that David, 45, messaged her on Instagram after Derek was put into a coma after contracting coronavirus.

Kate writes in her book: "I hadn’t had the chance to look at social media so it was Darcey and Billy who spotted it and squealed with delight.

"I messaged him back, thanking him and saying the kids were thrilled.”

Kate revealed Victoria Beckham’s husband sent words of encouragement to her two children as she went on to write: "He sent a personal video to each of them – words of encouragement and fun. He said he’d been thinking of his own kids and how they might feel."

Derek, 53, was hospitalised and put into a coma after contracting coronavirus last March, staying in hospital for over a year due to complications from the illness.

He has now been discharged and is continuing to recover at home with wife Kate and their two children.

Also in her book, Kate has opened up on the moments before Derek was taken away in an ambulance, as well as the final messages he sent her before being put into a coma.

As he was being lifted into the ambulance, Kate revealed brave Derek told her: "This is not the last time you will see me. It isn’t."

Kate admitted: "He would never have said that if at least a small part of him hadn’t been wondering if it was."

The publication states that Kate wrote: “His messages became more and more desperate. They were heart-breaking to read."

In another devastating moment, Derek told Kate: "I want you at the funeral."

Just days ago as she presented GMB, Kate gave a touching update on Derek’s progress as he noticed she was wearing a new dress as she left for work.

She told her co-stars: "It's a whirly gig, it's a whirly gig. No, it's been wonderful having Derek at home, and lots of little positives, I think.

"Whether those are positives because it is genuinely helping his cognition being at home or just because I'm there to see the little things, you know, whereas I couldn't go in before and we were on FaceTime and stuff, I don't know."

Revealing the moment, she continued: "But it feels positive, little moments of reaction. He actually said something the other day, I walked in the other morning just before I left to go to Smooth [Radio] to say, 'I'm off to Smooth now,' and he said, 'New dress?,' which was just amazing because it was actually."
