Kate Garraway has revealed her husband Derek Draper is “devastated by Covid” as she shared an update on his on-going health battle.

The 54 year old Good Morning Britain star’s husband Derek is still battling health complications after contracting coronavirus last year.

Derek returned home last month after spending more than a year in hospital following complications of Covid-19.

Now Kate, who recently revealed she’s had the same EMDR therapy as Prince Harry, has shared an update on her husband, revealing he’s still “devastated” by the illness.

Kate appeared on BBC’s The Andrew Marr show from her home via video link.

GMB star Kate told viewers: “He came home on April the 7th so we're a few weeks into it now. How is he? Look, he's devastated by Covid.

“He can't really move, his communication is very minimal. There are moments where there's up, you feel you know he's in there. He has a lot of memory.

“But the accessing of it is very limited. He's a long way from the Derek Draper that you know Andrew but he's home and he's alive, he's asleep now.”

Andrew then replied: “Give him all our love and all our very best wishes.” To which Kate said: “Absolutely.”

It comes after Kate said she’s starting a “whole new chapter” with husband Derek and shared her belief her husband’s condition will improve.

Speaking to Times Radio earlier this month, Kate explained: “It's just a whole new chapter that we're starting on now, which is him at home and seeing how he can recover, seeing how he can recover and where he can go.”

Meanwhile Kate also said she feels Derek, who was almost left paralysed by a rare brain inflammation, will never be “exactly the same person”.

She explained: “I believe he will improve. I think we've all been changed by what we've been through actually.

“The whole country has been changed by what we've been through.

“So I don't think he'll be exactly the same person again. I don't think I will be actually or any of us will be.

“I don't think you will be either. I think we've all been so affected by the pandemic generally.”

Kate has recently shared her excitement at her husband being strong enough to join her in their garden, which she said is her “happy place”.

The GMB host shared a beautiful photo of herself smiling with a flower crown on while sat in a garden chair on her Instagram.

She wrote in the caption: “Happy @gardendayuk! My garden is definitely my happy place & even though it's not big or fancy I love being out there even if the weather isn't perfect, because just being outside listening to the rain fall and the wind blow through the leaves is like therapy for me.

“I can't wait for Derek to get stronger so can get him outside too as know it'll be good for him.”
