Megyn Kelly smiles as she leaves apartment after NBC firing
A smiling Megyn Kelly appeared to be enjoying a Halloween stroll early Wednesday as she left her Upper West Side apartment building.
Kelly has not spoken publicly since her NBC show was canceled after she made controversial comments on blackface in an on-air discussion about the holiday’s costumes.
She remained silent but was smiling as she strode out of her home alone, wearing a gray shirt, matching boots, a blue jacket and jeans.
The 47-year-old former Fox news anchor is negotiating her exit from the Peacock Network while halfway through a three-year deal worth $69 million.
Sources familiar with the negotiations told TMZ that NBC offered her $38 million, which the network said represents the balance owed on her contract.
Some reports have speculated that Kelly’s reluctant to sign a non-disclosure and non-disparagement agreement that NBC attached to their offer.
Her lawyer Bryan Freedman said Kelly would sign an agreement for an additional $10 million – a demand the network flatly rejected, according to TMZ.
Meanwhile, a poll published Tuesday found that 45 percent of 2,201 adults surveyed felt NBC’s decision on Friday to cancel “Megyn Kelly Today” was “too harsh of a consequence.”
Only 26 percent felt canceling “would be the appropriate consequence for her comments,” according to the survey, conducted by The Hollywood Reporter/Morning Consult.
Kelly came under fire recently after an on-air discussion on her show about Halloween costumes.
“You do get in trouble if you are a white person who puts on blackface for Halloween, or a black person who puts on whiteface for Halloween,” she said.
“Back when I was a kid, that was OK just as long as you were dressing as a character.”
Last week, NBC News boss Andy Lack told staffers: “There is no other way to put this, but I condemn those remarks. There is no place on our air or in this work place for them. Very unfortunate.”
