Romantic reason behind Lucy Mecklenburgh and Ryan Thomas’ baby boy’s name

Lucy Mecklenburgh has excitedly showed off the first snap of her newborn baby boy as she and Ryan Thomas welcome their little son into the world.

The former TOWIE star, 28, broke the news of her arrival on Instagram last night, sharing a picture of her tiny son's little hand wrapped around her finger as he gently snoozed in his basket.

"Roman Ravello Thomas," she captioned the sweet photo, along with two blue love hearts.

The name Roman, unsurprisingly, comes from the Latin 'romanus', meaning 'citizen of Rome', and was popular during the – you guessed it – Roman empire.

Ravello is usually used as a girl's name but is also the name of a pretty Italian town on the Amalfi Coast, where Lucy and Ryan got engaged last June.

It looks as though they've been inspired by their beautiful trip to Italy when it came to naming their son.

The pair stayed at a luxury private apartment nestled in the hills behind the town Ravello, where they made a little love nest during their time away.

Lucy and Ryan journeyed to the nearby town of Positano for dinner, which boasts sea views, picturesque winding streets and the freshest seafood and herbs.

They even hired a bright red classic convertible to drive down the beautiful coastline in style.

Ryan had planned the entire trip himself, whisking his girlfriend off without telling her where they were heading next.

She documented the holiday on Instagram, gushing: "Well it's safe to say @ryanthomas84 has planned my dream holiday! I've wanted to come to the Amalfi coast for years and so far it's even more beautiful than I could have ever imagined!!

"Our 1st stop is this stunning villa in Ravello. I'm not sure he can beat this place but I'm excited to see where the next surprise location is!!!"

Lucy may have thought that Ryan couldn't top their first destination, but their second stop – Villa TreVille, in Positano – was the epitome of five-star luxury.

he villa was so high up a mountain that they had to get a donkey to carry their luggage.

But the treck uphill was certainly worth it, as they soon shared snaps of sprawling boho-style sofas on a balcony that sat against the incredible skyline.

The villa also had its own hot-tub on the balcony, and a gorgeous looking restaurant and bar.

Excitingly for fitness fanatic Lucy, there was even a fully equipped gym looking out at the beach, so she could keep up her rigorous workout regime.

Days later, as fans predicted, Ryan got down on one knee and proposed to Lucy with a gorgeous rare yellow diamond ring.

He'd arranged a romantic dinner in Positano overlooking the sea, with the soft lights of the town twinkling behind them.

As they were served dinner by candlelight, Ryan pulled out the ring and popped the question on bended knee.

What better way to commemorate their once-in-a-lifetime trip than by naming their baby son after the place he was conceived?
