Saira Khan says she only ‘tolerates’ some Loose Women co-stars as she sheds light on exit

Saira Khan thanks fans for support ahead of her operation

Saira Khan, 50, has admitted she wasn’t as close to some of her Loose Women co-stars as she was to others. The presenter announced her decision to quit the ITV show earlier this month after her fellow panellist Andrea McLean also stepped away from her role on the programme.

Hinting at some tension behind-the-scenes, Saira revealed she wasn’t planning on staying in touch with all of her co-hosts following her departure.

When quizzed on who she’d remain friends with, the former Apprentice star divulged: “You make friends with some people, you tolerate some people, and some people you just have to do the job with.”

Saira added: “I’m not going to go into the nitty gritty there now.

“There are some friends.. people I will be close to because we get each other.

“And there are some I really don’t miss at all who I was just like, ‘I just have to tolerate you to do the job’.”

The television personality went on to say that clashes of opinions with others on the show led her to be less friendly with them.

Saira went on: “You have to be professional about it. You can’t pretend that everyone is going to be your best friend.

“Especially on a show with different opinions, you’re not going to tolerate everybody’s opinion.

“That’s fine. That’s not a problem, just do it with respect and you have to be open minded.”

Reflecting on debates she was involved with, the star explained: “Sometimes I’d go in with an opinion and someone would say something different to me and I’d think ‘Do you know what I never saw it from that point of view!’”

During her interview with Celebrity Skin Talk host Scott McGlynn, Saira was then asked about diversity on the Loose Women panel.

The presenter had previously called for diversity to improve across British TV.

Saira said: “We need LGBTQ representation on daytime.

“Where you are sharing your life stories and you are helping to shape people’s opinions and giving them education helping them to broaden their minds it’s absolutely fundamental to have someone from that community on a show that can help shape that.”

The host also addressed some topics she became fed up about discussing on the daytime TV show.

Saira insisted she couldn’t be less interested in chatting about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

“I don’t want to just talk about Harry and Meghan, I couldn’t give a flying monkeys,” she said.

Saira then pointed out: “I’m not just going to stay on the show for free make-up and a nice wardrobe!”

The star joined the show in 2015 and the opportunity came 10 years after she finished runner up the first ever series of Lord Sugar’s BBC series The Apprentice.

In a statement in which she shared the news of her exit from Loose Women, Saira said she wanted to focus on pursuing other projects including her skincare business Saira Skin.
