Naked Attraction is one of the more controversial shows on television. In fact you’d be hard-pressed to find a challenger in terms of sheer shock factor.

The premise of the provocative programme is that a person selects someone to date on the basis of how their naked body looks. Contestants are sectioned off in separate cubicles and in the world’s most un-erotic striptease their naked flesh is slowly revealed, starting with the lower leg.

With each new section of the body comes the eviction of another mortified player doomed to waddle off, rejected and deflated, as the camera hones in on their bottom.

While this doesn’t seem like the perfect recipe for romance, in 2019 anything goes. After all, if you were told thirty years ago that we would all be walking the earth with tiny computers in our pockets downloading hope and swiping for love, you’d scarcely believe it. So for the sex and body positive among us, this show fills a void, and is as practical as any smoke and mirrors, personality-for-camera dating show.

But have any of the couple’s we saw hug in the nude actually remained intertwined?

Well, it does appear that the show has had one success story. Gemma Warren and James North both appeared on the show in 2017. The couple first met when Gemma selected James' genitals (and face) to go on a date with. In a previous interview with OK! Magazine Gemma said: "They [James and her family] get on a like a house on fire and my family find the way we met hilarious.

“We’re hoping to move in together next year and marry one day. It may seem mad that I saw my boyfriend naked before I knew anything about him, but it worked and we’re so happy. It’s good to see each other naked first — you don’t have to worry later on about whether they’ll fancy you."

The young mother also spoke of how the attraction was instant in an interview with Closer Magazine, revealing: "I kept catching his eyes and he’d smile at me. It was like we had a connection. He seemed genuine and, when I got naked and we hugged, it wasn’t awkward. He complimented my body, which gave me a confidence boost as I was worried I didn’t look good after having kids."

The benefits of going on a show like Naked Attraction is that it enables you to meet like-minded people. So while Gemma and James are the only couple set up from the show, there is actually one more pairing that have the Channel 4 programme to thank for their romance. One woman met her current boyfriend who was a fellow contestant but in a different round.

In an interview with HuffPost UK, Millie Norris said: “Ben was a lovely guy, we got on well enough. But then I met Derry. Back at the hotel where they had put me up, I went for dinner and saw there was just me and two single men sat on their own.

"We all got chatting and I’d told them I’d just been on [the show] – they were both going to be pickers the following day. We went for a drink, I swapped numbers with one of them, and suddenly Derry and I were texting all day every day from then on.

“When it came to Derry’s turn on the show he picked a girl he got on well with, but fortunately for us it didn’t go anywhere – awkwardly he’d already met me, and then we were basically already a couple when he went on his date the following night.”

And they lived happily ever after.
