I regret telling my depressed girlfriend that she used me
DEAR DEIDRE: I WAS offended when my new girlfriend asked for some space – and told her so. But after she blocked me on social media, I found out she’s ill. I feel terrible about what happened.
I was a single man of 52. She was 45 and separated from her husband when we met via a dating app.

We went on a couple of dates and got on well, so I had a real spring in my step. She’s so beautiful, I felt like I was punching above my weight.
But after a couple of months, she went cold on me, saying: “Can we leave it a while? I need to think about everything.”
I felt so hurt. I thought she was rejecting me, like everyone else I’d met. In the heat of the moment, I told her I thought she’d used me.
She told me where to go and cut all contact.
But I’ve since been online and realised her profile mentions depression. My sister has been through that, so I know how tough it can be.
