Sex Education fans have watched the awkward father-son dynamic between Adam (played by Connor Swindells) and former headteacher Mr Groff (Alistair Petrie) from the very beginning. They have never really seen eye-to-eye with Adam feeling like he is a disappointment to his father who has very high standards. But since the Netflix show’s return with season three, fans have been commenting on the casting choices for the roles.

Are Sex Education’s Alistair Petrie and Connor Swindells related in real life?
Taking to Twitter, fans have been commenting on how alike Petrie and Swindells look.
Pedro tweeted: “This is one of the best dad and son castings I’ve ever seen”, with Name Cannot be Blank replying: “Not just the looks. Their mannerisms and stuff are perfectly aligned. Great acting.”
A third then commented: “The way they smile is exactly the same it’s mindblowing.”
So is there any real-life connection between the two actors?
While it would be great to think that there is a familial connection between the stars, Petrie and Swindells are not related.
Swindells, 25, grew up in East Sussex, whereas Petrie, 51, was born in Catterick, Yorkshire, before spending much of his childhood moving around the Middle East, Europe and East Africa.
Therefore, it was simply down to good casting that the actors look so similar.
This was confirmed by Petrie when the Mr Groff star spoke to LadBible.

Petrie said: “He’s like an extra son to me. I have two boys but I really do consider Connor my third son.
“He’s such an incredible talent.
“They cast him before they cast me, and I remember when we got together and read for the first time, everyone in the room was like, ‘ah, ok, I think we’ve got something here’.”
Even though Petrie isn’t connected to Swindells outside the show, the actor does have his real-life children in the latest season of Sex Education.

Petrie’s twin youngsters Brodie and Cal Petrie are both in season three of the Netflix series.
His children can be seen in the episode where the Moordale students take a day trip to France.
After Rahim (Sami Outalbali) throws a sock full of faeces out of the coach window and hits another car, Mr Hendricks (Jim Howick) gathers the students to find out what happened.
Brodie and Cal can be seen sniggering as the music teacher tries to find out the truth.
Those who have already binge-watched the entirety of series three are now left with a Sex Education-shaped hole in their lives.
But there is no need to worry as there will be more new episodes to come.
Sex Education has already been given the green light for a fourth outing which could be out sometime next year.
Sex Education seasons 1-3 are available to watch on Netflix.
