Buffy the Vampire Slayer's Anthony Head is "amazed" that the show is still attracting new viewers
Last year, Buffy the Vampire Slayer saw most of its cast reunite to celebrate its 20th anniversary, but if you think that the fuss being made over the, quite frankly, brilliant series would end there, you’d be oh so very wrong.
In fact, according to series star Anthony Head – known as Anthony Stewart Head in the show’s credits, or just as Giles to pretty much everyone who watched the series – Buffy is still attracting new viewers all the time.
“What I’m amazed about, of all the things that I’ve done, I still get young people coming up to me, whether it’s Merlin or something else, with Buffy it’s like ‘Wow!'” the actor told hosts Tim Lovejoy and Simon Rimmer on Sunday Brunch today (April 22).
“There’s a new generation that came on board, and it’s basically because it’s still relevant,” he continued. “Because it’s about growing up and it’s about finding your place in society – it’s just brilliantly written.
“The first season is a little dated now, but once it gets into its groove, it stands out.”
Of course, in this day and age, you can’t remember an old, fan-favourite anything without talk of a reboot following, and that’s something Anthony admits he gets all the time.
“They’re always talking about rebooting it,” Anthony said, before voicing his support for Joss Whedon’s original animated series reboot plan.
“I think if [Whedon] could do the animated series that he originally wanted to do, that would be quite a good reboot. Because the comic book, they’re in series 11, he’s kept it going in comic books, but he backed off the TV.”
Anthony Head will next be seen in BBC One’s new drama about a family of high-flying divorce lawyers, while Sunday Brunch continues on Channel 4 next Sunday (April 29) at 9.30am.
