Coronation Street fans horrified as they spot Bethany Platt's RAPIST in the Lidl Christmas ad
CORONATION Street fans are horrified after spotting a former cobbles villain in Lidl's Christmas advert.
Actor Ben Cartwright – who played evil paedophile policeman Neil in the ITV soap – features in the festive advert for the budget supermarket.
And some fans can't get over his previous role as he plays the part of a reveller enjoying Christmas dinner.
One wrote: "@LidlGB Just seen Lidl’s new Christmas ad. Is that the peado cop that groomed Bethany in Corrie that’s in it at the end?
"I know the guy was just playing a part, but seems a strange choice to promote Christmas for your company."
A second said: "I'm sure I just saw the actor who played [Neil], the copper who abused Bethany on #Corrie doing a #Lidl advert."
Another added: "In scenes reminiscent of one of Nathan’s parties, Corrie villain Neil has turned up in the Christmas Lidl advert waving a bottle of booze. Festive."
Neil was sent to prison alongside groomer Nathan Curtis and a host of other men in 2017.
Bethany had bravely spoken out about the abuse she suffered and given evidence in court to ensure her abusers were sent to prison for a long time.
She has been shown to be still suffering the effects of the grooming and abuse in the long-running storyline.
Actress Lucy Fallon revealed earlier this year that she had quit the cobbles and will be leaving the soap in the New Year.
