Corrie star warns fans after he is caught in Covid scam

Coronation Street star Tony Maudsley has warned fans after he was caught in a Coronavirus scam.

Tony – who plays George Shuttleworth in the ITV soap – shared information on his Twitter about a scheme relating to vaccine passports.

He wrote: ‘Like an idiot I just got caught out with this NHS passport scam. Suddenly I realised (after giving them all my bank details) that the email address attached to what looked like an official NHS email didn’t match.

Luckily, I realised quickly and cancelled the card and alerted my bank.’

Plenty of Tony’s followers responded to the tweet, with many pointing out that had fallen victim to the scam too.

Tony has played the role of George Shuttleworth since 2020.

As the owner of the undertakers, George works with Todd (Gareth Pierce) and recently offered him a place to stay after Billy (Daniel Brocklebank) discovered his crimes and threw him out of their flat.

George is also in an on/off relationship with Eileen (Sue Cleaver). The funeral director is somewhat clumsy when it comes to love, and has regularly made mistakes that have caused Eileen to shatter George’s hopes of being in a relationship.
