Dan Walker apologises on The Chase as he loses £104K after pressing wrong button

Dan Walker issued an apology to his teammates on Sunday's celeb edition of The Chase, as he was sent home after clicking the wrong button.

The BBC Breakfast presenter performed spectacularly in the first round, racking up a whopping £8,000 thanks to his wealth of general knowledge.

Chaser Paul Sinha put a high offer of £104,000 on the table, which Dan bravely decided to accept, taking a major risk.

Unfortunately, a question about the 2019 Oscars threw him completely, and he mistakenly clicked the wrong answer – leading to his defeat.

Ahead of his exit, Dan turned to his teammates and remarked: "Sorry gang."

The tricky question read: "In 2019, which Marvel film became the first superhero film to be nominated for the ‘Best Picture' Oscar?"

Three options were listed below – Avengers: Infinity War, Black Panther, and Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Dan immediately clicked option A, Avengers: Infinity War, but straight away admitted he'd made a giant mistake.

Turning to host Bradley Walsh, he exclaimed: "Do you know what I did there – I meant to put Black Panther."

Bradley was devastated for him, as the loss meant Dan only had one more chance to make it back to the final with his money in hand.

He took the loss on the chin, remarking: "It's alright, got to take it as it lies."

Sadly, Dan didn't know the answer to the next question, which concerned the origin of the name of the Himalayas.

He was sent home empty-handed, leading the audience to let out a collective sigh of disappointment.

"So, so sorry," Bradley said, holding his head in his hands.

Dan held his head high, and turned to his remaining teammates – Ferne McCann, Ruth Davison and Mark King – and wished them good luck in the final Chase.

"I wish you all the best for the final round," he said, before leaving the studio.

Luck was on their side – the remaining trio managed to beat Paul Sinha with just seconds to spare, meaning they took home £12,000 between them for their chosen charities.

The Chase continues on Monday at 5pm on ITV.
