Grey's Anatomy is renewed by ABC for a massive 15th season
Grey’s Anatomy has been renewed by ABC for a 15th season.
The decision to give the show at least one more run makes it the longest-running primetime drama in ABC history, Variety reports.
“Grey’s Anatomy has a special place in my heart and millions of viewers feel the same way,” said ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey.
“Thanks to fiercely loyal fans who have been on this journey since the beginning, and new generations of viewers who continue to discover the joy and drama of Grey Sloan Memorial, the show is as strong as ever.”
Ellen Pompeo still leads the show as Meredith Grey, with support from Justin Chambers, Chandra Wilson, James Pickens Jr., Kevin McKidd, Jesse Williams, Caterina Scorsone, Camilla Luddington, Kelly McCreary and Giacomo Gianniotti.
The 14th season of Grey’s Anatomy is coming to a end next month, with just four shows left in the 24-episode run.
Dr. Arizona Robbins (Jessica Capshaw) and Dr. April Kepner (Sarah Drew) will be leaving the show by the end of this season, while Gina Davis will return for a guest spot as Dr Nicole Herman.
And while the show has now been confirmed to continue, Ellen Pompeo has said that the season 14 finale will be “devastating with a side of absurdity”.
Grey’s Anatomy was created by Shonda Rhimes, who is still executive producer an head writer.
It spawned the successful spinoff Private Practice, which focussed on Dr. Addison Montgomery (Kate Walsh) and had its own six-season run that ended in 2013.
