Here's how much of Lauren Cohan's Maggie we'll see in The Walking Dead season 9

Lauren Cohan finally confirmed this week that Maggie will be back in The Walking Dead season 9 and now we know how much we’ll see of her.

Deadline reports that she will definitely appear in six of the first eight episodes, but her role in the second half is up in the air, with it all depending on her new ABC TV pilot Whiskey Cavalier.

If that show gets a series order, then she has been cleared to film The Walking Dead during her hiatus from that show, although a deal would need to be negotiated. If it doesn’t get a series, then AMC can negotiate a full-time deal for Cohan.

The lack of confirmed clarity around the situation means that even if that fan theory about Maggie being a villain in season nine pans out, we doubt we’ll see Maggie becoming the show’s next major death by the mid-season finale.

Cohan didn’t give away many details when confirming her return for season nine, but teased, “I’m going back. There’s a lot more Maggie story to tell.”

Maggie was last seen plotting against Rick in a private meeting with Jesus and Daryl, all of whom agreeing that Negan doesn’t deserve to live, with outgoing showrunner Scott Gimple later teasing Maggie’s villain turn.

“It looks like that to me. Lauren [Cohan] is so amazing in that scene. She’s full Maggie Corleone,” he explained. “Jesus, you know, he would not have killed the surrendering Saviours, but he’s not Morgan – like, he could kill Negan. That certainly isn’t off the menu for Jesus.”

The Walking Dead airs on AMC in the US and on FOX and NOW TV in the UK.
