Outlander cast tease details of ‘exciting’ season six

Outlander season six was pushed back due to the impact of COVID-19 on filming. This is set to finally start up soon but some fans might be concerned if there will be fewer episodes thanks to the ongoing pandemic. Here’s everything you need to know about this and what has been confirmed about season six so far.

How many episodes will there be in Outlander season 6?

The sixth season of Outlander was due to begin filming back in May 2020 but was delayed by the coronavirus pandemic.

Thankfully, the latest update from the stars of the show confirmed filming will be beginning imminently.

This was announced in a special video from Sam Heughan, Caitriona Balfe, Sophie Skelton and Richard Rankin, which was posted on the official Starz Twitter.

They dropped some hints about what to expect next in the show from the costume department back at the end of December.

As well as this, the Daily Record reported Starz has constructed a huge testing centre at the show’s production headquarters in Scotland.

This is set up and ready to begin testing cast and crew over the coming weeks.

Now the show is finally on its way, fans might be wondering if anything has changed ahead in its format as a result of coronavirus.

Many series have had their latest seasons cut short due to increased restrictions needed to keep filming safe.

Among the casualties are American shows like NCIS, Grey’s Anatomy and Young Sheldon.

Currently, Starz has confirmed the show will have 12 episodes.

Of course, there is a small chance this could change due to the unpredictability of filming in the current situation.

However, as scripts have likely already been written, fans will be hoping this will remain the episode count.

There were also 12 episodes in the fifth season of the drama series, which aired in 2020.

This is one fewer than there were in seasons two to four, which all contained 13 episodes.

Season one featured 16 in total, split into two parts when it was first broadcast on Starz.

Not too much is known about season six so far other than it will be mainly based on Diana Gabaldon’s sixth novel A Breath of Snow and Ashes.

This features the Frasers in the years leading up to the American revolutionary war.

As well as this, Heughan has confirmed some other details about what will come next for his character.

“I was recently in a costume fitting putting the boots back on, I was like, ‘Oh, my God. I forgot how heavy his clothes are, how big his personality is,’ the star told Parade.com.

“It will be nice to go back and be him again. He is so strong. You feel very proud and like it is an honour to be playing him.

“There is also something that surprises you as well. Every season, every episode, there is always something that you don’t expect.

“And I’m like, ‘OK, that’s what Jamie’s doing. That’s who he is.’

“Actually, this season from what I’ve seen of the scripts, I’m excited because I think there is another side to him you haven’t seen before.”

Outlander seasons 1-5 are available on Amazon Prime Video now.
