Jennifer Aniston’s ex was ‘dying inside’ filming Friends as they broke up

Devoted fans of the 90s sitcom Friends will remember in season four, Rachel Green became obsessed with a man named Joshua.

Played by Tate Donovan , Joshua Burgin frequently visited Rachel at Bloomingdale’s to use her personal shopping services.

Over the course of several episodes, Rachel attempted to seduce him as she helped him pick out a whole new wardrobe.

But ultimately the pair’s relationship came to an awkward end after Rachel started talking about wanting to get married – and even answered the door in a wedding dress.

If you thought those scenes were uncomfortable to watch, then just wait until you hear this.

Tate and Jennifer Aniston didn’t meet on set, they had actually been a couple in real life for two years before he guest-starred on Friends.

However by the time he came on the show, the pair were in the process of going through a break-up.

So while they were filming kissing scenes and falling in love, the pair were really miserable.

Recently Tate, 54, has revealed exactly how he felt at this time in his life.

Speaking to Us Weekly , he described it as a "tough" experience, but said the cast treated him really well, despite the situation.

"Those six people were amazing to me. They were fantastic. It wasn’t cliquey for me at all. I was lucky.

"It was really ultimately a great experience of how people can treat you really well, and you still do your job even though you’re sort of dying inside."

He added: "I was just happy to be on the team. The only bummer was Jennifer and I were breaking up at the time.

"And so that was tricky to sort of act, and act like we are just meeting each other, and falling in love, or whatever, interested in each other, when we’re sort of breaking up.

"That was just tough.

"It was sort of like I proved that, hey, I guess I’m a pro.

"If you can go through a tough break-up, and still do your job, then you’re a pro."

And it turns out that if Tate and Jennifer hadn’t been breaking up, we could have seen a lot more of Joshua and Rachel’s relationship.

"It was just six episodes. I mean, only because we were breaking up," he explained.

"We were like: ‘Hey, can we not keep doing this? Cause this is really painful and tough.’

"The people that know that we dated think that we met on Friends.

"But in Jennifer Aniston’s ex says he was ‘dying inside’ filming Friends while they were breaking up fact we had dated for two years before then, and it was over by the time we were on Friends together."

Ultimately Rachel ended up with her on/off boyfriend Ross Geller when the show came to an end in 2004.

But did Joshua find his happy ending?
