John Barrowman ‘butchers’ Christmas song – and viewers spot unhappy Ruth
John Barrowman has been heavily criticised for 'butchering' a Christmas song live on This Morning.
The new Dancing On Ice judge performed a hit from his fab-u-lous Christmas album but lots of viewers were not feeling in the festive spirit.
John told presenters Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford that he did not want to be Michael Bublé – and many felt there was no worry about that.
His rendition of Santa Clause Is Coming To Town came outside the This Morning studios next to a ferris wheel.
John had told the This Morning hosts he expected them to dance – but viewers spotted Ruth looking 'bored' and 'unhappy'.
Taking to Twitter , one viewer said: "Oops Ruth caught off guard there lol"
"@RuthieeL not looking very happy watching @JohnBarrowman," added another.
A third said: "Haha ruth looks bored with this performance #ThisMorning think I will swerve this in HMV"
John explained that his new album would launch listeners into the Christmas spirit.
He said: " I don't consider myself being a big peformer. I do albums once in a while for people who want to hear me sing.
"I’m happy it's doing really well. I don’t want to be Micheal Buble. Everything in there has the John Barrowman fab-u-lous in there so you get everything you expect."
Critiquing his performance, one viewer tweeted: "There would never be enough cotton wool to stop the bleeding from the ears after that. Bloody hell!"
"Live on @thismorning today it's #johnbarrowman absolutely and brutally butchering a festive song. Yelling us right into Christmas with some crazed out of tune, ear-splitting wailing. Fun," added another.
However, a third disagreed: "Oh my god could that man BE any more FAB-U-LOUUUUSS! love love LOVE him!"
While a fourth added: "Think people on here are being very mean to John Barrowman. Hes a very talented, versatile all round entertainer and as such, should be adored."
*This Morning airs weekdays on ITV at 10.30am
