Katie Redford lands soap role on BBC soap Doctors after being fired from Coronation Street over age lies

KATIE Redford is well on her way to becoming a soap legend despite being axed from Coronation Street for lying about her age.

The actress – who was announced as joining the cast of The Archers – will also appear on multiple episodes of BBC One soap Doctors, The Sun Online can reveal.

And in a strange coincidence. Katie will play a character called BETHANY – just like her almost Corrie gig.

The role of Bethany Morris – a new semi-regular character – was filmed over multiple weeks back in September.

She will appear in episodes aired between the 10th and 15th of February.

Bethany arrives at the Mill for work experience, but her know-all attitude ends up getting her in to trouble and she inadvertently inspires a patient's child to try something risky.

The 27-year-old actress was fired by furious Corrie bosses after claiming to be 19 to win the part of Bethany Platt in the ITV soap, but now two years on she has joined the cast of The Archers.

The BBC Radio 4 soap has cast the actress as Lily Pargetter, an 18-year-old student who is the daughter of Elizabeth Pargetter.

She said of her character: "I believe Lily to be extremely bright, confident, social butterfly with quite a charming wit to her.

"Despite her youth, she's been through an awful lot and I think she's developed a much thicker skin due to tragic past events. I also think she's fiercley loyal. Her mum and twin, Freddie, mean the world to her."

Fortunately on the radio it doesn't seem like there will be a chance of her being fired for looking too old for the part.

The actress was 25 when she was set to take on the part of Gail McIntyre’s 14-year-old out-of-control granddaughter, but bosses axed the wannabe star after it was revealed she had duped them into hiring her by telling them she was only 19.

Corrie released a statement at the time announcing Katie’s casting with the blurb: “Nottingham-born Katie, 19, will debut as Bethany this spring when she arrives unannounced in Weatherfield from her home in Milan.”

But eagle-eyed fans were quick to point out that online profiles for the actress revealed she is actually 25 – and would have been 26 by the time her first scenes aired.

Public records show Katie’s birthday is March 2, 1989 — meaning she is just six years younger than Tina O’Brien who is returned to the show as Bethany’s mum Sarah-Louise Platt.
