Kristen Bell Uses Her Magic to Launch 'Veronica Mars' Season 4 A Week Early On Hulu

A huge announcement for Marshmallows everywhere: You can now stream Veronica Mars Season 4 on Hulu. Originally, the eight-episode revival was set to premiere on July 26, but as it turns out, star Kristen Bell has a few connections. Here’s what happened.

The first episode aired at San Diego Comic-Con

Crowds gathered hours before the 11:30 session for the chance to see the first episode of the revival, titled “Spring Break Forever,” a week before its official launch date. In the episode, Veronica and her dad are still working together at Mars Investigations, and still struggling to get by in the very divided town of Neptune, CA.

But a few things are different. Fans who saw the 2014 film Veronica Mars will recall that she gets together with Logan in the end — and lucky for LoVe shippers, they’re still together. And the beach town is flooded with college students on spring break, a few of whom are involved in the what appears to be the season’s big mystery.

The cast came out to talk about the new season

After the episode aired, the audience was greeted by much of the cast, who had taken the stage. In addition to Bell, there was Enrico Colantoni (Keith Mars), Jason Dohring (Logan Echolls), Percy Daggs III (Wallace Fennell), Ryan Hansen (Dick Casablancas) and Francis Capra (Eli “Weevil” Navarro). Joining them was new cast member Kirby Howell-Baptiste, as well as executive producers Rob Thomas and Diane Ruggiero-Wright.

Everyone was excited to answer questions about where their characters are now, and what’s to come in Season 4. A few audience members asked questions, including one who was dressed in a classic Veronica Mars outfit from Season 1.

Bell recently celebrated a birthday

When Bell started the series, she was in her early 20s. It was one of her first big acting gigs, which she has spoken about at length. Now, years later, she’s returned to the character as a mother in her 30s.

And though it was a sacrifice to go back to spending long hours on set filming Veronica Mars, Bell did it for her daughters. “I made the choice as a mom — which was really hard — to go, ‘I’m going to miss a couple of bedtimes for a couple of months because I want this character to exist in the world. I want her to be in the zeitgeist,” she said recently.

She surprised the audience with an early release

At the end of the panel, the moderator wished Bell a happy birthday. Her birthday was July 18, 2019, one day prior to the panel. Bell remarked that she loves her birthday, and celebrates it for a month. As it turns out, she was about to get a big present.

Bell commented that she hadn’t received anything from Hulu, a clear setup. With that, the moderator explained that in honor of her birthday, Hulu was releasing the entire fourth season one week early, beginning immediately.

Here’s what to expect from Season 4

That’s right — you can go watch Season 4 right now as long as you have a Hulu subscription. But if you’re not quite ready to dig in (or you’re stuck at work), here’s what you can expect.

Veronica is still great at what she does — but given the amount of infidelity she’s seen in her life, she’s not exactly keen on marriage. Logan, on the other hand, wants to take their relationship to the next level. However, she’s got a major distraction: A bomb went off at the Sea Sprite Motel, killing four and injuring several more. So whodunnit? Don’t worry, Veronica’s on the case.
