Laura Benanti Takes Over Eliza Doolittle Role in ‘My Fair Lady’

The actress is set to replace Lauren Ambrose who will walk away from the beloved theatre role on October 21.

Actress Laura Benanti will replace Lauren Ambrose as Eliza Doolittle in Broadway’s My Fair Lady.

Ambrose will walk away from the beloved theatre role on 21 October and Benanti will make her debut two days later.

“Eliza Doolittle has been my dream role for as long as I can remember, so I couldn’t be more excited to join this brilliant company,” Benanti says. “Working with (director) Bartlett (Sher) and getting to be part of this show is a dream come true”.

Benanti will join a cast that includes Harry Hadden-Paton, Norbert Leo Butz, Rosemary Harris, Allan Corduner, Jordan Donica, Linda Mugleston, and Clarke Thorell. Kerstin Anderson will also portray Doolittle at all Tuesday evening performances beginning 30 October.

The musical, about a dialect professor’s attempts to turn a common London street flower seller into a high society lady, will run until February (19), according to Deadline.
