‘Locke & Key’: Connor Jessup & Emilia Jones To Play Tyler & Kinsey Locke In Netflix Series From Carlton Cuse & Joe Hill
EXCLUSIVE: The Locke siblings are set for Locke & Key, Netflix’s series adaptation of Joe Hill’s comic, from Hill, Carlton Cuse and IDW Entertainment. Connor Jessup (American Crime) and British actress Emilia Jones (Utopia) have been cast as Tyler and Kinsey Locke, respectively. They join It‘s Jackson Robert Scott, who plays their brother Bode Locke.
Netflix in July gave a 10-episode series order to Locke & Key, which had been originally developed and piloted by Hulu. Netflix did not pick up the existing Hulu pilot, written by Hill, to series but set out to redevelop the scripts, with Aron Eli Coleite and Meredith Averill joining Hill and Cuse on the show’s creative team. The changes also included re-casting two of the three Locke siblings, with only Scott, who played Bode in the Hulu pilot, staying on in the Netflix version.
Locke & Key is a horror/fantasy series that revolves around siblings Kinsey, Tyler and Bode (Jones, Connor & Jessup) who, after the gruesome murder of their father, move to their ancestral home in Massachusetts only to find the house has magical keys that give them a vast array of powers and abilities. Little do they know, a devious demon also wants the keys, and will stop at nothing to attain them.
The Netflix series was created by Hill and developed by Cuse, Aron Eli Coleite and Meredith Averill; the new first episode is written by Hill and Coleite; Cuse and Averill will serve as showrunners.
It director Andy Muschietti, who helmed the Hulu pilot, is working on the film’s sequel, so he is not available to direct the Netflix version but he will serve as an executive producer on the series, along with Barbara Muschietti as well as Cuse via his Genre Arts production company, Hill, Averill and Coleite. Also exec producing are Lindsey Springer through Genre Arts, Ted Adams for IDW Entertainment and David Alpert and Rick Jacobs via Circle of Confusion.
Jones played Alice Ward on Utopia and also appeared in Wolf Hall, miniseries Residue and Doctor Who.
Jessup is known for his starring role on ABC’s American Crime, alongside Felicity Huffman and Regina King, as well as his co-starring role on TNT’s Falling Skies. He’s repped by ICM Partners, GGA and Schreck, Rose, Dapello.
Scott is repped by Coast To Coast Talent Group, Artistic Endeavors and attorney Scott Whitehead.
