Love Island hunk ‘convinced’ Ben Foden to do Dancing on Ice despite love-split
Love Island star Wes Nelson convinced Ben Foden to take part in the 14th series of Dancing on Ice after his reality TV success.
Last Sunday, ITV fans were blown away by the level of talent during the jaw-dropping opening show as the first half of the star-studded contestants took to the ice.
After watching their fellow contestants' breath-taking performances, many of the celebs preparing for their TV debut this Sunday turned to former contestants for advice before they step foot on the ice and perform in front of millions at home.
While they make sure to put in the extra hours before the big night, the 36-year-old sportsman opened up about why he decided to take part in the show.
In an exclusive interview with the Daily Star and other press, the professional rugby player confessed how one of his reality star pals was one of the main reasons behind his decision to take part on the skating competition.
He admitted: “I spoke to a few guys before I accepted doing the show. I spoke to Max Evans and Wes Nelson.
“Wes was the one who really made me want to do the show because he said it was an unbelievable experience and he couldn't recommend doing it any higher.”
The budding contestant went on to explain how his enthusiasm for the show was why he took the plunge and signed up to the show.
Ben added: “He said it was one of the best shows that he ever did so he was one of the reasons why I said yes to actually doing the show.
“I didn’t get any tips from him. He did really well as well but I didn’t get any tips off of him on his skating.
“But he said it was a wicked experience and so to take it if the opportunity's there.”
The Love Island star took part in the skating talent show back in 2019 alongside his professional partner Vanessa Bauer.
And it proved that the 23-year-old was quite the skater as he made it all the way to the grand final where he was pipped to the post by former Strictly Come Dancing pro dancer James Jordan.
Viewers will remember the pair were surrounded by romance rumours throughout the series after the TV star broke up with his then girlfriend and co-star Megan Barton-Hanson.
But they weren’t the only couple to break up during the show, after it emerged pro skater Vanessa ended her relationship with her boyfriend of two and a half years just weeks into the competition.
And it appeared at the time as though the pair were utterly in love as viewers watched them enjoy a sweet "kiss" during their pirate routine on the show.
Speaking at the time, a source told The Sun: "They had a thing at the start of the competition.
"Wes and Vanessa were instantly attracted to each other, you only had to be in the same room as them for a minute to see sparks were flying.
"But it wasn't long before Wes decided he would rather stay single. He is the man of the moment and fast becoming a household name.
"This has been really awkward but they are both being professional and getting on with it. They know the Dancing on Ice trophy is theirs to lose."
Dancing on Ice continues on Sundays at 6.30pm on ITV.
