Sadiq Khan was confronted over his opposition to proposals for the shut down of London in the event of a new spike of the coronavirus pandemic through the Capital. The Mayor of London lamented finding out the plans from the papers rather than being informed through regular meetings with both Boris Johnson and other key officials. But Good Morning Britain host Kate Garraway suggested the Prime Minister was fully aware of “what he is doing” because of his own experience as mayor.

Mr Khan insisted he and other London officials “desperately need to know what the gameplan is” as he warned it would be impossible to put the whole of London under lockdown.

The Mayor of London said: “In London, the 32 boroughs work closely with Public Health England, I receive a daily readout of positive cases in London, borough by borough, we know where there could be particular concerns and issues.

“Council leaders and councillors are working incredibly hard with their own Public Health directors to make sure they’ve got a plan to test, trace and isolate, and support.

“These are things we’ve done by ourselves, not working with the Prime Minister and his ministerial colleagues.

“Don’t leave it to individual councils to be brilliant and do the right thing. Work with us to make sure there’s a plan in place.”

But GMB host Kate Garraway then proceeded to challenge Mr Khan over his criticism, suggesting Mr Johnson’s own experience as Mayor of London provided him with the necessary knowledge to best prepare the Capital for the virus.
