Strictly 2020 cuts off Boris Johnson after Covid-19 update delayed for 3 hours
Strictly Come Dancing cut off Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s latest Covid-19 update after the emergency press conference was delayed for three hours.
The conference, held at Downing Street, was due to start at 4pm today, although, it was pushed back until 6.50pm.
Fans feared that the dancing competition would be cancelled as viewers anxiously waited for the announcement.
However, the BBC series went ahead as usual, just a few minutes later than planned.
The delayed start also meant that the professional dancer’s Halloween routine was cut from the beginning of the show.
Taking to Twitter Strictly fans couldn’t help but comment about the conference being cut short.
One tweeted: ‘Scheduling this to clash with Strictly so BBC1 cuts it halfway through isn’t the slickest bit of govt comms I’ve ever seen.’
Another commented: ‘Oh my god they really did cut to Strictly you could not make this up.’
While one added: ‘The BBC have not just cut from Boris to Strictly, I am cackling and completely delirious.’
Mr Johnson explained that the UK would be going into another national lockdown from November 1, in a bid to try and save Christmas.
Pubs, restaurants and non-essential shops will be forced to close once again – although some will be available for takeaway.
Mr Johnson held the conference to discuss new measures to tackle the coronavirus crisis.
He was joined by chief scientific adviser Sir Patrick Vallance and chief medical officer Professor Chris Whitty for the briefing, following a meeting of his Cabinet earlier in the afternoon.
It comes after the live show for Little Mix: The Search was also postponed because of the announcement.
Releasing a statement to its official Twitter account, a spokesperson for the show explained: ‘Little Mix: The Search has been postponed tonight for a BBC News Special.
‘The show will now become part of a big final event weekend, with the semi-final airing at 7pm on Friday 6th November, and the final at 6.05pm on Saturday 7th November.’
Strictly Come Dancing airs on Saturday at 7.10pm on BBC One.
