Bradley Walsh, 60, was once again on hand to help usher four contestants through their time on The Chase as successfully as possible. In order to get their hands on a share of the jackpot prize, the players would all have to defeat Paul, 50, and his superior knowledge but only two managed to succeed. As the result of the Final Chase sent shockwaves around the ITV studio, the presenter explained a “very unusual” occurrence had happened as The Sinnerman had performed a clean sweep of the questions by getting them all correct.

Contestants Phillip and Gaynor had made it back for the Final Chase with a combined jackpot of £50,000 after successfully defeating The Sinnerman.

As Paul had answered all the questions correctly until this point, the pair knew they were going to have to pull something special out of the bag.

Putting their heads together for the first time, the players managed to accumulate 17 points that the quizmaster would have to match to beat them.

Ordinarily, a few pushbacks would have made the Final Chase last a bit longer but the general knowledge guru won the game with 46 seconds to spare.

It was following his success in the hot seat that Paul then went on to praise his efforts and for Bradley to announce how he’d not answered one question incorrectly during the entire show.

“That’s as well as I’ve plated,” the quizmaster said, adding that he was “really, really pleased” with his game.

“I don’t judge how I’ve done based on the number of questions I’ve got right. I judge them on the difficulty level of the questions.

“And I thought both of us got pretty difficult sets which is why I was very effusive of my praise for [the team’s score] because I thought you’d done superbly well.

“But unfortunately for you, so did I,” he continued before Bradley jumped in to take away the jackpot from the players.

“Well, I have to say, a target of 17 and caught with 46 seconds remaining, that’s extraordinary,” the host remarked.

“We’d of needed at least another nine at that rate but that’s the way it goes.

“Now, I’ve got to say, this is going to hurt me as much as it hurts you. I’ve got to take away that £50,000.”

Once Bradley had finished, Paul added: “What can I say? They’re two absolutely superb contestants who played the game as it should be played.”

“Gaynor, you brought courage to the game at an unexpected moment, it has to be said and you’ve got nothing to regret whatsoever,” The Sinnerman continued.

Moving on to his rare achievement, Paul then declared he had not got one question wrong with the host going on to corroborate this.

Commenting on the Chaser’s performance and how not a single pushback was issued, Bradley said: “That’s very unusual folks.”

Taking to Twitter, viewers responded to the result of the game, with one writing: “Anyone who doesn’t think @paulsinha is the best #Chaser is misguided. @jenlion is close, but he’s awesome #TheChase.”

Another posted: “Today’s episode of #TheChase confirms to me why @paulsinha is the best Chaser by a country furlong #Thoroughbred.”

Whilst a third shocked fan commented of their praise for the quizmaster: “@paulsinha was on fire. Best I’ve seen him play #TheChase.”

“Wow!! 17 correct answers on the bounce from @paulsinha on #TheChase today in the final chase. In fact, he didn’t get a question wrong all show,” a fourth shared.

“Amazing stuff Paul, well done. Is this the best performance in chase history from a chaser?” they continued.

This achievement has been accomplished by several other Chasers since the episode first aired as it was a repeat from 2016.

The Chase airs weekdays at 5pm on ITV.
