Malique made his return to Hollyoaks during the episode which aired on Wednesday, September 8, 2021, but his comeback to the Channel 4 soap was announced prior to broadcast. The actor’s character, Prince, was reunited with his mother, Goldie McQueen (played by Chelsee Healey) but he is harbouring more than a just few secrets from his loved ones. After taking a two-year break from the weeknight serial drama, here is everything you need to know about why the former I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! star has returned.

Why did Malique Thompson-Dwyer quit Hollyoaks?

Malique made his original exit from the programme back in 2019 as his character Prince was in pursuit of a new life away from the fictional Chester village.

The departure came following a number of high profile storylines for the troublemaker, including the death of his wife, Lily McQueen (Lauren McQueen).

With his twin brother, Hunter McQueen (Theo Graham), having already made an exit, Prince decided to go and join him living in Brighton.

Behind the scenes, Malique had quit the show because he wanted to focus on other career opportunities away from acting.

Speaking in an interview with The Sun, he said: “I have been doing a lot of music and I’m trying to pursue that and get my music out there however acting is my main passion which I won’t be giving up.”

The door was left open for the character to return in the future, meaning it was possible for Malique to make his comeback this Autumn.

Since leaving the show the first time around, the actor has appeared on several other high profile television programmes.

He featured as a contestant in I’m A Celebrity prior to quitting the weeknight serial drama and was voted off second.

Leaving the role of Prince behind, he went on to feature in reality shows such as Celebs Go Dating, Celeb Ex in the City and Celebs on the Farm.

Why has Malique Thompson-Dwyer returned to Hollyoaks?

After two years away from the soap, Malique has reprised the character of Prince and has spoken out on rejoining the cast.

The actor explained: “You know what, I was bricking it coming back, just because I’ve been away for so long.

“I’m a bit rusty but I’m really enjoying myself. There are some new people, new faces,” he explained in a statement released by the network.

“I’m just glad to be back, back with the family, it just feels like home. I feel like I’ve never left,” he added.

Malique has given no exit reason for his return to the show but with the door having been left open, he could have made a comeback at any time.

The actor’s return to the show has coincided with the soap’s Black to Front hour-long episode, spotlighting the work and efforts of black members of the cast and crew.

Prince takes centre stage in the episode, having recently returned to the village with his fiancé Olivia (Emily Burnett) on his arm.

In Thursday night’s first look at the episode, which aired on E4, it was revealed Prince was considering moving to New Zealand.

Having just returned, it is unlikely the character will be making another exit so soon and rather, it seems Prince and Olivia could settle in Hollyoaks.

Fans of the show have been sharing their delight for Malique’s return on Twitter, with one viewer writing: “Drama time in Hollyoaks. I can’t believe Prince is back in Hollyoaks #Hollyoaks.”

Another posted: “I love seeing Prince reuniting with everyone…now we just need a Romeo [Nightingale] reunion #hollyoaks.”

Whilst a third viewer wrote: “@Hollyoaks yay Prince is finally back home in Hollyoaks village #Hollyoaks @officialmal_.”

Hollyoaks airs weeknights at 6:30pm on Channel 4. First look Hollyoaks airs weeknights at 7pm on E4.
