The German Chancellor used her weekly podcast to also call on Germans to step forward for their third booster jab as she said it was vital that the nation protects themselves and others amid soaring covid cases.

Ms Merkel said: “Now the vaccine is here all we have to do is grab it! Grab it fast!

“I beg you, join in and try to convince relatives and friends too.

“If we stand together if we think about protecting ourselves and caring for others…

“We can save our country a lot this winter.”

Following her jabs demands, Ms Merkel issued an honest warning that there were “very difficult weeks ahead of us”.

And she even went so far as to say ”you can see that I am very worried” about the virus as she made her emotional plea to the public.

Ms Merkel then went on to call on Germans who are already double jabbed to get a third booster shot to protect themselves against the virus.

She stressed how the booster jabs are “a real chance to break the severe fall and winter wave of the pandemic”.

Her comments come Germany’s disease control centre said on Friday the country’s infection rate had climbed to 277.4 new cases per 100,000 residents over seven days.

While the Robert Koch Institute reported 45,081 new infections on Friday.

The figures came two days after the daily total topped a whopping 50,000 for the first time.

As of November 15, 97,720 have died of the virus in Germany.

43 additional deaths were reported on Sunday November 14.

56.2 million Germans have received both doses of a covid vaccine.

That means 67.5 percent of the country have been fully jabbed.
