Locals were gripped by fear last night as the towering blaze consumed the care home, evacuating 150 residents and putting nearby homes at risk.

Emergency services frantically scrambled to the Beechmere residential care home at around 4 pm and were met with a wall of fire that crews are still struggling to contain.

At 10 pm, 16 crews had attended the scene with fire chiefs saying that the building had sustained “significant damage and has partially collapsed”.

Terrifying footage posted to Twitter shows the flames overwhelming the building as thick plumes of smoke billow into the sky.
